What are the MoonAnchor options?Updated 2 years ago

MoonShade was designed to be extremely versatile and functions well with most vehicles in a variety of applications and conditions. We created a wide variety of MoonAnchors to make mounting your MoonShade quick and simple.

Temporary Anchors

The Large and Small Suction Cup Anchors included with MoonShade are a great way to use MoonShade on many vehicles right out of the box. The Suction Cup Anchors will attach to many smooth, mostly flat surfaces like vehicle roofs, body panels, and windows. (A little moisture can help with a good seal BEFORE engaging the lever).

Best for:

  • Any vehicle, camper, or structure with mostly flat, smooth, rigid surfaces like vehicle roofs, body panels, and windows

Our Magnet Anchors can attach to most steel surfaces for temporary use in calmer conditions (winds under 5mph). These are a nice anchor option to have on hand for quick setups in a variety of locations on the vehicle. If you’re a frequent user in a variety of conditions, you may want to consider a stronger anchor compatible with your vehicle.

Best for:

  • Quick setups on ferrous metal (iron containing) structures like vehicles, trailers, and buildings
  • Calm conditions with winds under 5mph

If your vehicle has a roof rack or raised roof side rails, Nite Ize Gear Ties allow for a simple attachment point for MoonShade's corner carabiners, or the included Strut Pole. (Gear Ties are available as add-on with MoonShade awning purchase only). You may also be able to clip the corner carabiners directly to some narrower styles of roof racks and rails.

Best for:

  • Vehicles with roof racks or cross bars, or other hardware for attachment of equipment
  • Attaching to non-vehicle structures with irregular shapes

Fixed Anchors

Our semi-permanent Adhesive Anchors are popular for their always-ready install and secure performance in light to moderate winds. Adhesive Anchors use 3M VHB adhesive for a strong hold that is still removable later if needed.

Best for:

  • Mostly flat, smooth or textured surfaces
  • Vehicles where other fixed anchors will not attach

For 2007+ model year Sprinters with factory standard roof rails, we recommend our Sprinter Rail Anchors. Best for Sprinters.

Pad Eye Anchors are the strongest MoonAnchor. The stainless steel pad and eye mounts to any mostly flat surface using 3M VHB adhesive and included self-tapping screws.

Best for:

  • RVs, trailers, conversion vans, or non-vehicle structures
  • Permanent anchor installation

If your vehicle has standard awning accessory rails, our Awning Rail Anchors-- in 5/16", 3/8", and 1/2" sizes--are a great option for a secure and easy install on many styles of RVs, trailers, or campers.

Best for:

  • RVs and campers with keder or C-channel awning rails

Anchor Placement

To attach MoonShade's corner carabiners to the anchors, anchors will be placed at 7ft or 9ft distance, whichever distance your vehicle allows and whichever orientation you prefer.

If your vehicle doesn't have space for anchors placed at 7ft or 9ft distance, you will need to use the included Strut Pole to mount MoonShade. You will attach the Strut Pole to one of MoonShade's 7ft sides. Then, strap/connect the Strut Pole to placed anchors or directly to other vehicle hardware using the included hook-and-loop straps, or Nite Ize Gear Ties (sold separately).
